Still Small Voice
We went to the beach yesterday, which turned out to be quite an adventure as was drove for almost 3 hours trying to find the right place. We made a few wrong turns along the way, but eventually made it there safe and sound! Only by the Lords grace did we make it there safe and sound.
When we first got in the car and began our little journey to the beach.... I forgot to put my seatbelt on. I usually don't wear a seatbelt when I'm crammed shoulder to shoulder in a car.... it's just kind of awkward trying to find the right place to click the seatbelt in...... Anyways, as we hit the road, I got a little feeling that I should put my seatbelt on, so I obeyed. Then I began hearing a still small voice telling me I should pray for our safety.... that we will get to the beach without getting into a car accident. At first I kind of ignored it thinking "Riiiiiight.... we're not going to get in a car wreck! We're fine!" But that little voice didn't go away, so finally I whispered a short prayer for our protection.
Then, much to my surprise, about a half an hour away from the beach, only a couple cars ahead of us, we witnessed a car accident!! I could hardly believe it. Just in case that wasn't confirmation enough, on the way back from the beach, I was talking with one of the girls who was in the car with me when we saw the car accident, and I shared with her about how I heard that still small voice. She told me she felt the exact same way!! She was also praying for our safety.
This morning as I told my brother this story, he shared that he had also been praying for us along with my mom!! All these people received the same still small voice to be praying!! I totally believe God saved us from the wreck. If not for those prayers, and God's hand being on us..... I really believe that could have been us!!!
So.... the moral to this story.... ALWAYS listen to that Still Small Voice. Never ignore Him or brush Him off like it's nothing! Because He is obviously speaking to you for a reason!!
"And he said, Go forth, and stand upon the mount before the LORD. And, behold, the LORD passed by, and a great and strong wind rent the mountains, and brake in pieces the rocks before the LORD; but the LORD was not in the wind: and after the wind an earthquake; but the LORD was not in the earthquake: And after the earthquake a fire; but the LORD was not in the fire: and after the fire a still small voice." -1 Kings 19:11-12
Another story I wanted to share with you..... While we were still at the beach, I was talking with someone at a picnic table. Suddenly I felt my foot burning! I looked down to find a red hot coal from the fire. It’s still a mystery as to how it got there, considering we were pretty far from the fire. Anyway, needless to say, my pinky toe was burned pretty well. I didn’t start feeling the pain at first because the cool sand suppressed it. But later, while I was standing, listening to the worship, the pain became so bad I could hardly stand it. I was able to find some cold water to help, but I knew it wouldn’t help permanently. I began to pray God would just take it away completely. I tried to keep it hidden, but eventually my friend noticed. She put her hand on me and said a prayer over me. At that point.... in my heart, I was expecting God would take it away. It was still hurting a little bit when we got to the car, but it was almost totally gone. Just a few minutes into our trip back to the campus, the pain was completely gone!! I could still see a little blister on my toe, but the pain was gone!
The next morning, I told my brother and some friends at the breakfast table about the burn. When I went to show them the blister I realized it was completely gone!! We couldn’t even see where it used to be.... it was gone!! Praise the Lord!!! I was SO excited!! The Lord is still healing!!
“Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you: For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened.” Mark 7:7-8
